Foodism Philosophy
If there’s one thing that has inspired humans all over the world and since the beginning of time, it’s food. Of course, along with water and shelter, it’s one of the fundamental things we need to survive. As people say, “You gotta eat!” However, eating is also one of our greatest pleasures and pastimes and the source of great inspiration and beauty. It’s also one of the easiest and most common ways to show gratitude and generosity to others. Food gives life in a way against which nothing else quite compares.
Foodism History
Humans have always worshiped gods who provided food. The earliest gods and goddesses were fertility-based or agrarian in nature. On a deep psychological level, we as mammals conflate food and love from the very beginning of our lives. Our capacity for love and gratitude is directly related to who we are as nursing organisms. Most religious festivals in history have involved feasting of some sort, showing that Foodism is an essential part of the human religious impulse.
Foodist Practice
The observant Foodist looks at each meal as a gift from the universe and every communal gathering as a holy communion with life. Moreover, by finding new recipes and restaurants, the Foodist develops their creative sense of possibility. Foodist Yoga (Fooga) involves careful concentration on flavors and feelings experienced while eating. Some Foodists like to say a form of “grace” before eating, either out loud or silently to themselves. This can consist of a simple “Thank you” or a short passage such as “We are grateful for this food, even the parts that may not have been prepared quite right.”

The quickest way to a mans heart is through his stomach
— Anonymous proverb
Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter what culture, everywhere around the world, people get together to eat.
— Guy Fieri
Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable from those from the get-go.
— Anthony Bourdain
